Signing In to Facebook Messenger for the First Time

STEP 1

You may be prompted to enter your Facebook username and password, or if you've had another Facebook product installed on your device, you may be recognized and asked to confirm who you are logging in as. Either enter your username and password and follow the prompts to continue, or tap "OK to confirm your identity.

STEP 2

 You can also select "Switch Accounts" at the bottom of the screen to log in as another user.

Once logged in, a dialog box will appear asking for your permission to let Facebook access your contacts. This will enable Facebook to find your contacts within Facebook and make them available to chat with via Messenger. Tap "OK".

STEP 3

Another dialog box will then appear asking your permission for Facebook Messenger to send you notifications. This is an optional feature, but a good one to take advantage of if you want to be notified when a contact its initiating or replying to a conversation on Facebook Messenger. If you do permit Facebook to send you notifications, an alert will appear on your home screen whenever a new message is waiting for you. Tap "OK" to enable access, or "Don't Allow" if you'd prefer not to receive notifications from Facebook Messenger.

STEP 4

Once you've finished the setup, you'll see your Facebook profile photo and the text "You're on Messenger." Tap "OK" to continue and start chatting.

How do I force FB app to open in desktop mode?

I can get to the desktop version of my main wall feed from WITHIN the facebook app with this link: www.facebook.com/home.php?m2w and from there I can navigate to my selling group> photos> albums, and upload a picture into the sales album.

We used to be able to open a direct link to any album from within the app and it would open the desktop version of the album. Now that isn't working. I can only get the link above to open in desktop and then work my way to the album which is cumbersome.

Is there anyway to tweak the direct link to an album and get it to open in the desktop mode???

The desktop mode is hidden in the m.facebook not the app. To find it, open your browser and search for facebook. Open facebook using the browser not the app. You will probably have to log on to your facebook account. It will default into m.facebook that looks a lot like the app. But, there is a pull out menu on the left. Open it and at the VERY bottom of the page in tiny letters is "desktop mode". Touch that and it should open the full desktop version on your mobile device - note - it will be very slow.

Alternatively;

I also find that there is no option in the menu to use the desktop version nowadays, as there was in the past. However, something that just worked for me was to "request desktop site" in the Chrome menu using an Android tablet, then to change the "m" to a "www" in the URL.

If you're curious about where your Facebook account gets signed in from, or you're suspicious that someone has been logging into your account without permission, there's a lesser known feature called Facebook sessions that can tell you exactly where your account is signed in from geographically, and in most cases you can even see what device was used.

Here's how to access the feature with Facebook for iPhone and iPad!
Launch the Facebook app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
Tap the More icon in the bottom navigation. It looks like three lines on top of each other.


Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap on Settings and then Account Settings.

Now tap on Security.
Tap Where You're Logged In.


Here you can view (and end) all sessions for your Facebook account. Tap the X to delete the active session from your account.

If you see anything suspicious, we'd recommend not only ending the session, but changing your password.

One thing worthy of noting is that I've experienced sign-ins from different states and locations periodically that are far away. Many Twitter users reported the same issue and even had some of the same sign-ins I did.

I think this could be in relation to how Facebook handles logins on different servers but I'm not sure. If anyone else has any insight on this, let us know in the comments!
